ParticipantCan’t find a model number anywhere but I guess these don’t change much over the years. When on spin the pump goes and the shiny tin pressing above the gearbox spins but the drum doesn’t spin. I removed the 3 bolts holding the gearbox to the chassis but I don’t know how to get the agitator paddle off. Any tips / info. much appreciated.

Have you checked the coupling that goes from the motor to the gear box , it snaps causing the drum not to spin? very common fault I’ve come across .

Thanks for the replies. I found several videos on YouTube showing repairs to these and similar American machines so I now have the thing totally in bits. The motor coupling is fine and when you turn the gearbox part of the coupling one way you get agitation motion of the inner output shaft, the other direction seems to give spinning of the outer output sleeve but that was without it all assembled. I’m hoping the problem was the drum slipping on the drive hub / clamp.

I’m now thinking it was the clutch that was slipping. I took the clutch spring out and stretched it a bit with pliers. The drum is now turning, although I’m not sure if it’s fast enough as it looks quite slow when I lift the lid.

OK i’ve got exactly the same problem now on one i’m working on, so i stripped it down but there was loads of thick oil all in the clutch. so cleaned it off and it works better it but it does slip still every now and again. So i’m gunna order a new one. Should I be worried about the oil or does it just happen sometimes? I’ve also seen a “spring kit”which is basically the gubbing of the clutch unit can i fit one of these as its half the price? Thanks DJ Ring (5031689818056)
