Above was gradually taking longer to pump out (6 years) so I removed the drain hose from the pump and found it “full” of wash powder residue, cleaned it out but the rubber non return valve came out with all the crap, I reassembled it without the NRV and all is well, this goes to a stand pipe. I intend to replace the NRV but a bit puzzled as to what actually keeps it in place.
It looks like the side with the raised inner piece sits in the pump discharge pipe with the NRV tang pointing towards the drain hose, what keeps the NRV located as others I have seen fit over a little plastic tab that keeps them in place?.

Good grief, you must have the patience of Joab waiting 6 years for it to pump out?;)

Yes, the wife only spotted it after a long hot wash of ~ 3 hours, so the cycle took 3 hours + 6 years.

Anyway, any idea(s) of what retains this Heath Robinson rubber flapper in position?.

Not one I have seen close up, have you got a picture of the pump outlet?

Hmm, not clear from that pic, your guess could well be correct. The NRV is not as critical if the outlet drains into a standpipe. It is critical if the outlet hose is connected and clipped tight to the undersink plumbing.

just make sure the outlet hose only enters the standpipe about 8 inches or so as if it goes lower it may suck the water in the trap
