I have a whirlpool dishwasher model adp 2956 ixm.
main power button is flashing 4 times with pause then repeats. Intermittment operation, seems to work sometimes just fine, other times does a bad washing job.
Possible that there was a power failure during a cycle recently.
Any help greatly appreciated. thanks

There is no guarantee that the following information is correct, as your machine does not appear on the current Whirlpool tech disc. Probably a regional thing.
4 flashes means no drop in water level detected in the time allowed. Three things could be happening.
1/ If there is water standing in the machine, you have a blockage or a drain pump failure. If it’s coupled to a sink spigot, check that as well.
2/ The Water Indicator is full of fat and is jamming in the full position. Remove lower basket and all filters, look into the sump at the 3 o’clock position and you should see a black grid. Behind it is a rubber diaphragm and a light-action microswitch. It fills with fatty deposits. You can try using very hot water and a toothbrush to scrub the thing clear – it often works; you may have to remove it for full access. It’s a twist fit from underneath.
3/ The microswitch itself may have lost its “spring”.
THIS is what you’re looking for. Probably best to source it locally – postage to NZ might be a bit steep.
Piccie should help you with the layout under the machine.

Stay safe, power off before removing any panel.

fantastic,
thank you so much. Indeed appeared that was a blockage as you surmised, did the easiest method first lots of hot water, used a squeezed coke bottle to suck up the mucky water and particles and kept flushing with clean hot water and detergent till no more muck floated back out
Machine worked fine on first try and still does so.
so thank you again, and greetings from a nice autumn day in Auckland NZ 🙂
PS great picture which i have saved for future reference
cheers

Hi,
Had this exact problem with my IKEA (Whirlpool) DWH B10. Followed instructions and took out the switch. I actually took the switch apart, cleaned up the diaghram and checked the microswitch was ‘clicking’ ok. Put it all back together and working fine! Excellent help thnx from a happy house in Feckenham, UK! 😀 😀 😀April 10, 2011 at 3:51 am #283709malcolmNZ
