ParticipantI wonder if any one could shed light on this problem
Whirlpool dishwasher – will fill heat wash and empty but the top spray arm is not rotating properly – checked for blockages – all appears Ok – no restriction to the spray arm revolving – the top basket appears to be sealing up to the feed tube on the back wall ok.
I have come across this on a few older whirlpool dishwashers recently –
wondered if it was to do with a loss of pressure due to the seals the top basket spray assembly join into on the feed tube on the rear wall
Many thanks

Hi Dave
Do the dishes inside help the pressure to the top spray arm or what is happening that this is the case
Thanks for your advice

does not help pressure but it give the water jets something to push on

Have you checked where the feed pipe enters the cover plate 480140102074 on the sump, the small latches break off and the pipe pops out under pressure.
Also is it the old askol circ motor on this one as they can cause this.Colin

Hi Colin
I did check the feed pipe was pushed into its socket on the sump ( I had come across that one before on another Whirlpool machine).
It a capacitor start induction motor rather than than the Askol ‘All else appears ok but when tested without dishes – I had expected the top spray arm to turn ( I had never thought of Daves comment re: the dishes having an effect on the rotating of the spray arm
Many thanks Declan -
