ParticipantI have been call out to this dryer, which is bigger than the normal domestic dryer, the problem is when you push the start button, motor runs then stops when you remove your hand from the start button, also when you hold the start button it runs then cuts out. I.m suspecting the motor which is thermally protected. Any ideas guys
Cheers

Check the heater thermal fuse and thermostats as these are used as part of the circuit to keep the motor running.

Thanks Dave, wil check that, if both are ok, does it mean the motor is faulty?, on the diagram, heater thermostat reading is b/n 22.4k – 33.6k

Possible motor, normally they “burn out” though.
Suck it and see one really 😉

some of these units had a centrifugal switch fitted to the rotor, to switch from start to run winding. these should be visible as a plastic collar on the shaft which moves along the shaft under speed to operate a micro switch – may need lubrication or just dicky micro switch. worth checking first.

Hi these machines have a relay I had to replace one recently when you press start button it activates a holding relay check this before you think about looking at the motor.

Hi, is it the ralay inside the motor, or there is another one somewhere. i have the diagram and the only ralay i can see is the one inside the motor, i think.

There should be a relay inside the control panel I will check and try and find the part number later.

Sene, if you have the diagram take a look at the 196C thermal fuse and how it is connected.
There is no seperate relay in this model either.

Dear All,
I have removed the motor from the appliance and run it on its own, same problem, motor runs then the motor switch makes, trying to connnect the start windings. What i have noticed is, the rotor is very stiff to turn which causes the run speed to drop, causing this problem. will check spares@ if it is available. £145.00 from whirlpool.April 6, 2005 at 9:20 pm #130350dpm
Participant@ £145 for a motor, it might be worth looking more closely at the original- are all the throughbolts tight? Does it have any play in the shaft? If you hit the shaft a whack with a mallet axially from each end will it free off?
Me, I’d strip the motor with the idea of re-bearing it…

Hi DPM, i have had a look at the bearings, seems a bit fidily, has a aluminium disc plate cover on the bearing, will still give it a second look, £145.00 includes delivery 😈
