It’s a slimline Bosch in no less than 2 skirts, Greg! 5 button module along top edge of door.

Reset 2+4, see if it’s just had a little “moment” perhaps?

Hold down buttons 2 + 4 (little white dots under them) – drain pump should run for a minute, when it stops, the computer is zeroed and you should be able to start another programme. If it completes, the computer may just have had a little moment, if not, investigations required.

Hold down buttons 2 and 4 (counting from the left) at the same time for a few seconds, that should reset the PCB.
See how that goes 🙂

Thanks for the advice thus far, i think i may have confused you guys, so sorry and here is my control lay out and detailed description of what is going on.
the service bar code on a sticker on the door has 2 numbers these are:
8545 856 15600 and 990239008883on the top of my door at the extreme left i have one on/off button, on the right hand top of the door reading from left to right i have 5 red leds (these are the programmes pre rinse, rapid etc), a black programme selection button and then 2 red leds for salt and rinse aid.
When i start the machine on any programme the pumps spins and water starts to run through the inlet pipe, just as normal, however after 2 mins it stops, beeps and leds 1, 2 and 3 flash and 5 is lit solid, then after a short period this changes to leds 4 and 5 being lit solid.
thanks again for any help forthcoming.

Now I’ve checked it’s actually a Smeg manufactured dishwasher.
Fault code is E7, if you search the forums for “Smeg and reset” (exactly that without the quotes) ignore the above as that was for a Bosch made version.
Try that and see what happens, if it doesn’t work it’s engineer time to be honest, check the repairs@ link below should you need one 🙂

What an industry – its labelled Whirlpool but manufactured by SMEG, I remember the economics lecture on product differentiation being a capitalist ploy to confuse the bewildered consumer even more, however enough of this Marxist theorising. A massive thankyou for the prompt, detailed and accurate help i have received via my posting, thanks Greg, Chris and Dave.
For the benefit of others heres how i reset my machine and got it working (on a short rinse cycle admittedely but if it packs up again i know where to come).
Door closed, power supplying a switched off machine, open door, switch on and press programme button very rapidly 4 times, switch off. Switch on, led 1 and led 5 should flash, press programme button once, only led 5 should flash, switch off, don’t close the door, wait a few seconds, switch on – should function as normal.
best regards Dave -
