ParticipantHi,
Please could you help me understand what is happening with my Whirlpool DWF 407. When starting a cycle (either rapid, eco or rinse), after +-20 seconds it gives a single beep and the pumps stop making their usual noise. Shortly after it gives two beeps and at the same time it sounds as if the pumps are starting (with sound of water running) but within a second the pumps stop and it makes a single beep. This pattern of two beeps and single beep is repeated every few seconds without end.
Although it’s an integrated machine, I can still just see the led (of the corresponding cycle) light through a gap. It is illuminated continuously during the start (+- 20 seconds) of the cycle, but starts flashing 3 times with a pause thereafter; the flashing starts when the first single beep starts, as described above.
When opening the door to end this otherwise endless cycle of beeps, there is no error code on the LEDs, just a single LED light flashing continuously, indicating the cycle that it was last performing. There is nothing blocking any moving parts and all filters are clean.
From my research, the 3 flashing lights seem to indicate a heating issue. I’d be grateful for any insight or confirmation of that, or any pointers on how to diagnose further. If possible I will attempt a (safe) self repair. I am reasonably technical person (background in engineering).
Thanks in advance for your help.

i can see why you think its a heat problem but i would expect it to run longer before it stops. it barely has time to fill never mind detect if it heating.
you need to look at the event sequence what task does it complete. first it will pump out (does it stop) then it fills and stops when full or starts main motor as its filling (does it ? )Dave

Thanks for the reply Electrofix.
The event sequence is as follows:
1) At the start of the cycle, it pumps out successfully (I added some water to make sure that it manages to get pumped out, and it does)
2) Then the pumping stops.
3) After this, a single beep sounds
4) Two beeps sound and what I think is the main motor kicks in for a brief encouraging noise, which stops immediately (with a beep) and repeats (two beeps, motor kicks in, stops immediately, single beep). So this corresponds more to the “starts main motor as its filling” as you described.I hope the detail helps. Thank you again for the help.

from what i can see this unit seems to be made by smeg ( unless someone else knows better)
This fault also has all the hallmarks of a power supply problem on the pcb. (but as normal i cant promise) The more it turns on the more it runs out of power till the computer crashes it then bleeps as power comes back and restarts
you can either replace main board or get it repaired
