ParticipantHello All.
I’ve recently installed an IKEA/Whirlpool DWH B10 dishwasher. It’s worked just fine for many rinses and several washes.
This weekend, I fired it up, it filled with water (so far as I could hear it doing so), then started beeping and drained itself.
The beeping was a regular on-off pattern, and the power LED blinked in a sequence of eleven blinks, then a gap, then repeat.
I reset it and tried again, but with the same effect.
I totally understand that the codes are just a guide, but does this ring any bells? Appologies in advance if this has been asked before – a search didn’t throw up anything obvious 🙂

In the sump under the filter is a black mesh at the 3 o’clock position. This is the water level sensor and it’s probably full of gunge. Using an old toothbrush and plenty of hot water, try and scrub it clean. If it really won’t come clean, you’ll have to remove it from underneath. Power off, if you do…….

Hmmm. No success; I found the black grill but it was totally clean. The dishwasher has only been used in anger a few times, so I’m not surprised. I gave it a scrub with my toothbrush anyway, but to no avail.
Is there anything else worth trying before I have a look inside? And/or anything in particular that I should try to spot?

Strictly speaking, this is a fault with the Optical Water Indicator. This is a kind of turbidity/water clarity sensor. Unfortunatley, double checking retrospectively, it isn’t fitted to your machines :rolls: .
Therefore, if the computer is detecting faulty non-existant parts, the fault more or less has to be the computer board itself.
Computer board is very expensive – if you’re not in guarantee, I’d still recommend some pro help to avoid an expensive mistake.

have you checked the drain hose is not to low as that can cause the problem 🙂

Thanks for the followups. I really appreciate the advice.
I’ve got a Whirlpool engineer coming out this week to fix me up (hopefully!)
As an aside, my waste hose comes up to nearly the height of the machine, then falls away at a constant gradient over a few metres (extended hose) to a one-way valve thing on the main waste pipe. It seems to drain fine with this setup.

The Whirlpool repair guy has come and gone. What a nice man 😀
Anyway, it turns out that the problem was that there was water in the base, tripping the float switch (which apparently not all machines have, even though it has saved lots of water damage in this case). It turned out that there had been an overspill in the machine, simple as that.
(For one reason or another, I’d worried that it was the waste pipe leaking internally, but fortunately not so)
The guy had seen it all before, as I’m sure have many on here, but it seems that the root cause was using “three in one” tablets along with regular rinse aid. Too many bubbles == Overspill == Trip switch.
Well that’s a relief at least. Thanks again for all the comments and advice.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool DWH B10 fault – 11 blinks – UPDATE
I fired up the dishwasher again today (sans rinse aid), only to have it start beeping at me again. My heart sank 🙁
This time, I had the light blinking two times, and having a look underneath through the front panel, I saw the base was full of water again.
Time to come clean: when I first got the machine, in need of a longer hose, and working at the suggestion of the guy in my local plumbing shop, I opened her up with the intention of replacing the hose at source.
It turned out that this was not possible for one reason or another, so I replaced the compression clip I’d had to remove to take the pipe off (I did this, of course, before I determined the replacement was a no go…), using a regular jubilee clip.
The long and the short of it was that I didn’t get a good seal, and it was the waste pipe leaking. I was very nervous that my warantee visit was going to turn expensive if this was discovered!
Anyway, I’ve since done a much more effective job of sealing the join with a third clip, and so far not a drip.
What a saga!
Edd.
