Keymasterhiay, wonder if anyone can tell me, i have a whirlpool fridge freezer, and have been haivng probs with it, this mornign it was working fine, although was very frozen at the back of the fridge, this afternoon went shopping and put 100 quid of shopping in it, and now its switched itself off, light is still on etc, but no noise from the dridge like humming and ice is slowly deforsting and freezer isn’t freezing the bread etc i put in it. have had this prob once before and swithced it off for a few hours and then back on and came on fine, is there a reason this happens? many thanx evie

Keymasterstupid fridge doesn’t have the model number anywhere on it! and have searched my entire house for the mannual and can’t find it anywhere – its a big one, and its white…. its 4 years old, and its supposed to be frost free, but the back of the fridge always gets very icy, its got about 2 inches of ice on it at the min which is falling off in big lumps…don’t really know where else i can get the model number from?

Take the salad bins out, there should be a label there. Model number plus two 12 digit numbers. If you post the first 12 digit number that lets us look at the exact model.

It isn’t frost free, not in the true sense, it has an auto defrost fridge.
If there are large lumps of ice on the back wall then there is a system problem, either compressor, gas shortage, blockage or insulation by the sound of it.
Check the door seals and make sure it’s not in direct sunlight to rule out those problems, failing that it may be time for a new fridge/freezer in all honesty.
An engineer would be able to confirm the above with the correct equipment and a possible temporary fix with a gas top-up should it be short, but it’s days are numbered I’m afraid 🙁

KeymasterI do have it on the highest setting in the fridge cause i like stuff really cold, and the fridge is temporarily next to the oven, which i guess isn’t idea situation, but looks like will be purchasing new fridge then 🙁 thank you for your help evie xxx
