ParticipantI have a Whirlpool Compact Combi (ARG 648/WP) fridge freezer. A couple of days ago, I noticed that the fridge was at about 10-15 degrees (freezer fine). I turned the dial to 5 (full) and the freezer promptly froze solid but the fridge remained the same. After having read tips and advice from here and other places, I completely defrosted the unit for 24hrs, cleaned everything inside and outside (including the back) and switched back on. I checked the temp after 4 hrs and the fridge had gone down to 5 degrees but since putting all the shelves etc back in it only makes 10 degrees at best.
I have also noticed ice building up on the back wall of the fridge although I have checked that the drain tube is unblocked. Is there some part / panel that I can remove inside / outside I can check behind for ice et al?
Thanks.

There are no removeable panels on this model I’m afraid as it’s not a frost free unit.
It sounds to me like a system failure, can you confirm that the motor (compressor) is running all the time ?
Dave.

Yes, I can hear the fridge working. I’ve turned it off again and will try to leave it defrosted over the weekend and then try again. Is there anything (any part) I can test and maybe replace?

It won’t make any difference leaving it off I’m afraid, that only really applies to frost free fridge/freezers that have over-iced in the freezer.
The important question is, is the compressor running constantly ?
Dave.

Poo! I believe the compressor was running constantly but now I’ve switched it off I can’t be sure ?*&!? What does it mean if it is / isn’t? Sorry to sound thick!

If it is then it’s a system failure, gas leak, compressor weak, system blockage possibly.
If it isn’t, sometimes the thermostat can remain off for extended periods which will give the high fridge temperature.

OK, thanks for the help so far! I’m going to dismantle the bits I can to check for any blockages etc and failing that call someone out. Nobody in my area listed at repairs@ but I’m sure yellow pages can help.
