Whirlpool FridgeFreezer ice paddle issue

I have a whirpool fridge freezer with ice and water dispensers model is WSG5588.
The ice paddle has stopped working, the light does not come on and nothing comes out. Still making ice OK.
The engineer (under warranty) looked at it and said parts are not available, didn’t take anything apart or test it, didn’t even touch it!
They are replacing it but it’s a fab freezer and if I can figure out what’s wrong ill try and mend it.

The question is anyone know what would have broken and how to get the paddle and switch out of the machine?
