ParticipantHi,
I have the above integrated dishwasher.
I have been having a problem with it over the last few days,on finishing it normally beeps, but over the last few days,it has been continually beeping and on opening the door,it is flashing in the first cycle, which i think is a rinse.
it is washing and water is hot,so im thinking it cant be too major??.
i rung whirlpool but they were not very helpfull,i was told by them,it sounded that a programme had been interupted, and on hearing the beep to hold star button down, and to press another programme at the same time, that hasent worked.i have still been using it,but am worried am i damaging it.
any advice would be amasing, and id be grateful.

F4. 4 Flashes. Draining failure. Drain pump, control board OWI or water indicator defect
make sure that it is emptying properly first, check sump filter and end of the waste hose where it connects to for blockages
also remove mesh grid inside sump inside dishwasher and on the right hand side bottom there is a round black thing, this is your water indicator give it a good cleaning and try that
good luck

F4 means no drain detected in the time allowed.
Important question:
Does the machine drain the water out or not?
If NO, in order of easyness (Is that a word? It should be…), the machine may have a blockage. If you can hear the drain pump running, start with the sink coupling – is the spigot blocked? If you can’t hear the drain pump running, there is probably a foreign object in the drain pump jamming it. With the power off, remove the lower cover plate – the drain pump is at the front and is a twist fit to remove. BE CAREFUL – Whirlpool employed some of Wilkinson Swords finest engineers to ensure that the edge of the undertray is honed to a killing edge. The drain pump itself may have failed, but that’s unusual.
If YES, the machine is not detecting that the water has gone. Remove the filters in the centre of the base of the machine and look at the 3 o’clock position in the hole revealed. You will see a black grid. This is prone to choking with fatty deposits. You can use plenty of hot water and an old toothbrush to try and scrub it clean. If that doesn’t do the trick, it’s a twist fit from underneath to remove, then try cleaning it. Commonly, the microswitch on the back of the unit fails and simply doesn’t switch over, in which case, you’ll need one of THESE.
Stay safe, power off at all times.

Penguin,a reply im so happy.
Machine is draining the water,so am going to try cleaning the filters again, and will report back, this part that i may need,is it possible for us to put in ourselves,as cost at this stage is of major importance.also is it odd that it went through the cycle the other night and isent again now.
thanks ever so much, will get back to you,if you could look out for my posts, and easyness is a fab word to me a dizzy female! 😳

Not the filter, the black grid under the filters – click the link above to see what you’re looking for.

Yes i found the black thing,it seemed to have a lot of white grease on it,i gave it a good clean hot water and toothbrush, and put it on and it ran its cycle, and yaaaaaaaaaaaaay no beeps.hope it wasent a one off,but will keep you informed,if thats done it,i cant thank you enough .

Well done.
For future reference, the white grease is congealed fat and it accumulates through not taking heavy deposits off the crockery before washing.
Remember, it’s a dishwasher, not a waste disposal unit.

Good morning,
I realise this thread is a year old, but I’ve only just needed it 🙂
I have a similar machine ADP4602 I think, and located the filter, it was covered in fat. I dismantled it, cleaned it, put it back together and inserted in the machine. Again, it emptied the water but shortly afterwards flashed the Start light 4 times.
Would I be right in assuming the switch itself is knackered and I’ll have to buy a new one? I realise it’s only £35 but I’d really appreciate any confirmation that this would sort the problem, otherwise the dishwasher wouldn’t be financially viable 🙂
Many thanks for your time.
