ParticipantHi, have got one of the American Type, top loader washing machines (can’t see the model name or number – only Ultimate Care II), it’s about 18 months old. All’s great with it except that when I do a black wash, after the cycle is complete, it leaves a little residue on the bottom of the drum, which is left on the clothes – kind of like grey talc. It’s only a very little, but it is there. I guess the residue is present after every wash, but only noticable after the black wash.
Is there a filter somewhere that needs cleaning/emptying? As usual, I can’t find my manual!
As I say, apart from that, I’m really happy with the machine – it cleans well, spins well, no noises etc.
Any ideas?

It may be detergent related, what are you using? these machines were not designed to use automatic type powders.
There is no filter as such and if you can hear a good gush of water being pumped out then there is nothing to worry about.July 16, 2006 at 9:22 am #181996wenger

Hi, thanks for your response. I tend to use the 2 in 1 tablet type of detergent, not sure if I can mention names! Are these not suitable for my machine?

Hi I have one of these machines too and had the same problem so used powder instead which was much better but now I use liquid which I think is best. I have been trying to find powder for top loaders but can’t find any anywhere in the UK! My sister bought some in France but its long way to go just for washing powder!!

Washing Powder for toploaders is basically handwash powder, as its designed to be used with more water,
Supermarkets produce their own handwash detergent
Ariel Handwash (powder and liquids available)
Daz Handwash and Twin Tub
Dreft Handwash
Fairy Snow
Persil Handwash And TwintubThose are the only ones I can think of at the moment, but should work better with your toploaders than regular soap powders.
I hope people on this site don’t mind me posting this. 🙂

Thanks you guys, problem now solved. Am now using a handwash powder and all is well, no talcy residue.
Have since found that Costco do a drum of washing powder (their own make) that is specifically for industrial machines and top loaders. I have done quite a few washes and it works great. Costco is geared at the American Market so I guess it’s no surprise that I found it there.
Thought I’d mention it because someone who answered my post said they couldn’t buy ‘top loader powder’ in the UK.
Once again, thanks for your help.
