I have a Whirlpool/Ikea FXTP6 oven, and it had started tripping the power off over Xmas, usually when we are turning it off (moving all the dials back to zero), but sometimes when we are trying to cook a large thing (e.g. turkey). It’s just over 5 years old.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it and if it is easy to fix, please?

    most likely an element failing

Don’t understand why that would be the case when it is being turned off though?

when you turn the oven off you are rotating a mechanical switch. being mechanical not all the contacts make or break at exactly the same time. the element fault may be on the neutral side, if so, when you turn off the switch the neutral may break first. this can cause 240v to be supplied for a second to the faulty element thereby blowing your trip

tried to simplify it but its still most likely the element

Is there an easy way to work out which element is likely to be the faulty one? There seems to be a large one at the top, and I’m assuming there’s one in the fan bit as well?

only by disconnecting 1 of the elements and see if it trips (ie disconnect grill and see if fan element works being careful to insulate wires this is a temp test proceedure only ) unless you own and can use a multimeter to check for earth faults

make sure you isolate before working on unit
