If your removing the lid on one of these later Whirlpools,remove two lid screws then as you try to slide the lid back press slightly in the front centre of the lid. There is a small tab engages in the facia.
If the door lock fails on these by the way you often get F13 ( not related to door lock according to fault code )and the display goes dead. The one I had the door remained locked. When got door open the display returns. This has been posted before, but thought I would add the lid removal because I struggled! 😀
