I have moved into a house with a whirlpool built in single fan assisted oven, model above approx 6-8 years old. Seems easy to use but no instruction manual. First day worked ok but after that it will not work properly. When I turn the oven on the grill element lights up. I have made sure the grill is not turned on which is controlled by a seperate knob anyway. When you turn the grill on only half lights up so I think this is faulty anyway. The strangest thing is the fan, light & part grill work but the oven does not heat up it will only grill food. Can you suggest what the problem could be, whether it will be worth repairing or would you advise that i buy a new oven? thanks for any advice I noticed somebody else having the same problem as me as wellJuly 20, 2006 at 8:15 pm #182586Penguin45

There is no fan element in this oven, despite there being a fan 🙄
The oven works by turning on the outer part of the grill element and an element below the floor of the oven. The selector switch may offer you a choice as to the combination of elements to be used to heat the oven.

Hi
Thanks for that still not sure how to use.
The clock & timer buttons are easy enough to use
The first knob has 2 rows of what I would call triangles presuming this is the grill. It has 2 ways to turn low grill 0-4 & high grill 0-4, I always have the set as off at zero (0) otherwsie the grill is bright red and only works on one side. The 2nd knob is the temp control 0-250 , easy to use etc..
The 3rd knob has off (0), light bulb which is the light only, next the symbol shows an oven square with a line at the top & bottom, presuming this is the oven but even with the temp turned right up to 250 it does not heat up. the next function after this is oven line top & bottom with fan, I thought this was a fan assisted oven as you can see the fan turn at the back and you can feel it, lastly the last function on the 3rd knob is an oven sqaure with fan only no line on the top & bottom, this is fan only.
So please tell me what am I doing wrong? Do I have to turn what I call the grill knob on? I have tried most options to see what will happen but the grill does comes on all the time.
I used the bottom shelf to cook a quiche on 200 degrees for half an hour…. it it came out all burnt (black on the top and the pastry was raw.
every oven I have used before has been simple enough to use but this ones driving me crazy.
Thanks JaneJuly 21, 2006 at 8:01 pm #182588Penguin45

Oven selection:
Line top and bottom – base and top element selected
Line top and bottom with fan – as above with fan assistance.
Fan only – defrost mode. From what you’ve said, it sounds as though the base element has failed. The elements are fairly low powered, so presumably you need both to achieve temperature.
Part no. is 4819 259 28847, about £30 from memory. Contact spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for confirmed prices and ordering.
Power off when investigating.
