Could be the 22 ohm 2 watt wirewound resistor gone o/c Jim.

Thanks for that Martin, I assume Farnells and Maplins will have these items?

Yes they do but I’ve found the vitrous enameled ones from rs components are very good. I think 2.5 to 3 watt would be better.
Also the pcb is double sided so it might be easier to snip the leads leaving enough stems to solder toMay 24, 2010 at 11:31 pm #320961leavemetogetonwithit

Hey Martin114, I was reading an earlier thread in which you gave a link to a data sheet for this 22 ohm resistor. I read the data sheet welwyn-tt.com and found it referred to a “pulse resisting FUSIBLE resistor”. Seems like maybe the thing is a protection device if that is the correct replacement?

Hi Mike, you are right about it’s function, and when I was trying to source a fusible wirewound, I couldn’t find one.
I believe any wirewound rated at only 2W – 2.5W will fuse if overcurrent, in fact before I started using the RS vitrous ones, I used types bought from cpc, which tended to go open circuit with just the action of turning the wall socket on!(initial surge).
Since using the vitrous type I have had no failures, but my reasoning is that if the repair didn’t work, then it would have needed a new board anyway.
Another thought! The White ceramic resistors on the servis modules used to be a problem with going o/c but I don’t think they were anything other than ordinary wirewounds. :hmm:May 25, 2010 at 8:26 am #320963iadom

Martin, do you have a code/part number for that resistor from RS?

Sorry Jim, been away from computer – the RS stock code for the ones I use is – 152-347 (W21 vitreous wirewound resistor,22R 2.5W)

They are much higher resistance.

Removed the PCB this afternoon, resistor R020 does appear to be O/C. 8)
