ParticipantHi,
Can anyone help?, Im looking for the electrical drawing for the above model, has anyone got an electronic copy?.
I will explain my journey so far with this.
My good lady wife decided she wanted one of these, so as a comercial/ industrial refrigeration and controlls engineer i thought i would take a punt at buying a faulty one.
So for less than a round of drinks, i purchased the above ” spares or repair” from everyones favorite internet auction site!!.
It had the standard pcb issues, flashing display, chattering relays ECT,
The refrigeration side was good.
I replaced all the capacitors on the board, also had to replace the 3 relays as they had been chattering so long they where useless.
The compressor relay would not make atall, also found the evap fan ran at half speed all the time, replaced the triac to cure this.
The issue i get occasionally is the frige light will still sometimes momenterally flick off and on again as you open the door. and the other day, as i closed the door the alarm sonded for a couple of secons and both displays showed 88 88 then returned to normal.
Jumping back a step, initially when i repaired the PCB i only replaced the power supply related capacitors, everything worked fine, but i found the controlls “jumpy” and would do all sort of funny things , change temp setting, or even switch it self off, on one occasion.
After this i then replaced the 4 capacitors on one edge of the board that act “i think” as contact supressors this seemed to cure 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the ” jumpy” issues. it has been running OK for about 3 months now, execpt for the ocassional issues.
Im being honest here and trying to avoid buying a replacement PCB, hence looking for an electrical drawing to see if i can locate any other supressors in or arond the machine.
Has anyone who works on these regularly come across this before?. or are the controlls a poor design and jumpy from new?. Since i repalces all the capacitors the operation has been fine, just minor iritations, but i dont want it to switch its self off just as we go out for the day!.
Any advice would be much appreciated.February 9, 2014 at 10:57 pm #408808benlucysam

If you use the Search facility and type in Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer you will find you’re not alone. Problems like this appear to be commonplace it seems. 😉

OK i will try a differant tack here,
The Fridge freezer basicly functions as it should but randomly every 2 or 3 weeks it will change set point on either the frigdge or the freezer, sometimes both. once it switched itself off, another time it went in to holiday mode, but otherwise it functions fine.
It has had every capacitor on both boards replaced.
My question is, should i replace the front or rear board ?.
As i cant think of another component to replace.
Im not getting any of the usual issues related to failed capacitors.
Anyone advise?.
Thanks.March 25, 2014 at 8:14 pm #408811EFS

Thanks,
i have allready read al 50+ pages of this thread, seems to be alot of talking about the same problems but no real answers other than repalce the capacitors.
Im just after advice from any engineers who have worked on these alot for a “best guess” as to if the fault lies with the front or rear board?.
