ParticipantI have the well known clicking/flashing display problem. I have already purchased the replacement capacitor kit for US style FF boards from UK Whitegoods. I am a retired electronics engineer so I am quite confident that I can safely replace the capacitors but nowhere in the instructions does it say where to find the control board. At the bottom of the machine at the back I can see a full width screwed panel where power and water go in but is this where the control panel is hidden or is it behind the display panel? If so how do I remove that. Any suggestions gratefully received.

if you read the kit instructions from the web page
This kit is designed to allow you to repair the “rear” mounted electronic control module found on many Whirlpool produced American side by side fridge freezer models
anyway the kit to repairs the power supply is which is where the mains goes in and you don’t want mains voltages in the door

Do you know the 12NC or service number, starts 85 as I’m not getting anything from that model number?

Service number is 8586172150 and yes I have read the instructions that are on the website and included with the parts but they do not tell you how to access the rear mounted electronic control module. So I ask again – how do I get to this module so that I can take it out and make the repair?

Should be bottom back in a plastic case.

The back of the appliance does not have an obvious plastic case. It is made of two solid sheet metal plates, one that covers the entire back apart from the bottom 9 inches, then a smaller full width one that has vents on the right hand side looking from the back (presumably over the compressor), and on the left side an entrance for the power cord and an entrance for the water connector is in the middle.

Shown as item 526 2 on the attachment, maybe top on that one which is unusual.

Thank you for the diagram showing the position of the control panel. However if you look at the back of this machine there is no obvious access. I cannot post an image to show you although I have photographed it. There are two ways into the back of the machine – via six or so Philips head screws holding the large steel back panel on or via about 8 hex head slotted screws on the bottom panel, to me this seems the obvious first place to look but it will not give access to that top right hand corner shown on your diagram. Still confused….

An update. The control board on this model is located behind the bottom panel on the right hand side looking from the back. Turn off the power. Undo 6 hex screws and lift the rear panel over the vertical clips to get it up and off. Then undo 2 hex screws to release the control box. It is a tight wiggle to get it out but it comes free and the cables are long enough for the box to come almost onto the floor. Prising open the box clips can be done with a flat screwdriver to reveal the control unit. Release 5 molex connectors and four screws holding the board in and it will come out complete.
I changed all of the capacitors and re-installed within 90 minutes. Sadly it did not solve my flashing display problem so I guess the fault is in the front display panel. Any hints on how this can be removed would be welcome.

Hi chubtor, to remove the front panel, remove the drip dray from your water dispenser. You then remove the 2 philips screws revealed when you remove the drip tray. Switch your appliance off, gently pull the bottom of the water dispenser unit free from the door about an inch at the bottom first only, then push up on the unit to remove it from two plastic retainer details on the top of the dispenser tray, and finally remove from unit far enough to unclip the two connector harnesses from the dispenser unit left and right hand side. Front control panel can easilly be removed / replaced from there. Onibhoy, Troon

onibhoy, I have just seen your reply and would like to thank you, sorry for the delay but I have been out of the country for a while. With your instructions I can now order the parts and see if this fixes my problem.
