    Hi everybody,

I bought the above fridge off ebay and i am very happy with it. It had the stuttering water dispenser fault which i fixed with the capacitor kit from UK White Goods. However since this repair i have also found that the Ice Maker does not work. I thought that it would be the rear PCB faults that were stopping it working, but further investigation has revealed that the Ice Maker motor has no resistance. I have opened it up to see if it can be repaired but it is wound with wire the thickness of hair so i think it is beyond me.

My question is that is a replacement motor available? I have had a look around and i can’t find anything. There are a few on ebay in america but these are all 115V, so no use to me. The motor itself is made by someone called FSP who i can find no information on at all. The plate the motor is mounted on has a whirlpool part number, IM# S 106 2220041.

Does anybody know if this part is available? I don’t want to buy a replacement ice maker at £180 when most of the parts of the one i have are fine.

I hope that someone can help,

    Hi,

Can you give us the 12NC number off the rating plate so we can have a look for you?

However, a lot of these things are supplied as a full assembly and you can’t normally buy the separate parts and, yes, we know that’s a pain in the rear at times as well as hugely costly. All the more so with some Whirlpool spare parts prices which can be just ludicrous at times but,it is what it is.

Sourcing a single component on an assembly will usually require it either to be so commonly used that someone makes it available due to demand or, it’s the hard way trying to track one down from somewhere. Most times we don’t unless there’s a pressing need to do so as it can really be an uphill battle getting some of that sort of stuff.

    Hi kwatt,

    Thanks for your reply,

    The 12NC number is 8586 172 15010.

Yes it drives me insane when something goes wrong due to one tiny component, and being an electronic engineer i’ll often go to extreme lengths to try and fix things just for the sake of it.

The motor winding is a single spool of wire, so theoretically knowing the wire size and the number of turns it could be rewound. The winding seems to have broken at one end, and doesn’t look like it has overheated. I tried unwinding it onto my drill, intending to wind it all back on again so that i end up with two good ends i could solder back on to, but the wire is so fine and brittle it kept breaking, so i gave up in the end. There must be thousands of turns.

So i need a new motor, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is a full assembly only I’m afraid, part number 481241828698 that is changed now to part number 481241829716.

And you’re right, it ain’t cheap!

    Listed here: http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/48124182 … maker-unit

There is no information at all on the components inside that unit either.

    Hi,

That’s the answer i was hoping you weren’t going to give me! At that price that will be the absolute last resort, or i’ll probably just live without it. Thanks for your help anyway, i’ll keep the part number for reference in case i’m feeling flush some day.

I think i’ll just keep hunting ebay for parts, maybe i can get an american to source me a 230V one fairly cheaply.

    Thanks again for your help,
