    Hello

We inherited a Whirlpool Sb540w (think that’s the serial number – photo attached) American fridge freezer with our house. The ice dispenser has always been a bit dicey but something a bit more catastrophic happened this weekend.

Went to dispense ice and a couple of seconds in there was a lot of clicking from the back of the freezer, the display panel lights started flashing, then a buzzing noise followed by a ‘hot’ smell and all the display panel lights went off. The clicking continued.

Opened the freezer door and the interior light was flashing like mad, along with the clicking noise. Turned off at the wall which stopped the clicking and flashing but the display panel is completely dead. Opening the freezer door or dispensing ice/water starts the clicking off again.

The fridge and freezer seem to to operating as normal, as in they are cooling. The compressor is running and turning on/off seemingly as normal, fan underneath is running.

Called a local repair person who diagnosed over the phone and said it was the pcb – can replace tomorrow for £200 all in. Can’t get anyone else to actually come out to take a look and diagnose.

Does this sound like the pcb? We’ve had issues with other appliances and repair people saying it’s the pcb (£££) when it’s not fixed the problem long term, so we’re a bit wary.
