Re: whirlpool side by side defrost problem

I’m also having the same problem. I’ve defrosted the freezer to see if that would cure the problem, but the cooling element at the rear of the freezer is solid with ice again.

I’ve read that there is a defrost timer, a defrost element and a defrost thermostat, problem is I’m not sure which is at fault? Any suggestings how to find the problem?

Just a frinal thought – the light in the fridge stopped working about twelve months ago (just after the warrenty ran out!!) I’ve checked the bulb and looks OK and suggestions what to check next?

So I’ve located the defrost element and thermostat, but where is the timer hidden? I’ve read that rather than an old fashioned timer it may be an adaptive defrost controler on the mother board? Can someone enlighten me?

One of the 130 plus viewers of this problem must be able to provide an answer?

Re: whirlpool side by side defrost problem – further info

    I have a Whirlpool side by side FRSS2VAF20 other numbers are 8556 402 15000 and 11 0648 008256.

I’ve looked at the circuit board and my other half reminded me that it was changed under warrenty within the first 6months of having the appliance. Was it a particular make a capacitor that were defective? or should I just change them anyway?

I’ve checked the defrost heater and it’s fine, but when I checked the voltage to the heat it reads 100v. Anyone got any suggestions on how to get the defrost working?
