ParticipantHi
I have a whirlpool american style fridge freezer, the display in the freezer door seems to have developed a fault (well 2 actually):
Problem 1
Occasionaly all the lights will start flickering on and off, it will do this until the temperature is changed on either side, up or down, then it reverts back to constant. You can never tell when it will start flashing again, 2 hours or 2 days or a week. Sometimes when a door is opened it will flash again but stop when the door is closed. It does not affect service, just a tad annoying, it has been like this for many months, we just live with it.Problem 2
Slightly harder to live with, every few hours the alarm starts to beep and the fridge temp display shows a ‘d’. Seems to stay cool in the fridge. After 20 mins or so it stops beeping and display goes back to showing temp.(alarm clears). Any idea what this means??? I checked the manual and nothing in there about a ‘d’ in the display. I originally thought it was due to a door being open but it is not the case.Any help will be appreciated
Thanks in advance
Richard.

The flickering front display is caused by leaky capacitors on the electronic front display. You have to replace the whole front panel.
The “D” fault code indicates the air diffuser that controls the air flow into the fridge section is faulty, normally caused by the shutter been frozen with condensation water.
To solve this you have to replace the diffuser and the back main control board because it has been upgraded to over come this problem.
All in all its a very expensive repair job.Good luck

Needless to say, cut the power before attempting any repairs………

oh great 2 new boards then……..AND a diffuser?
The fridge had been stood for a while (2 months in my garage) and it was only operational for about 2 days before the d error.
Any idea how much the boards and diffuser will cost and any decent suppliers in the SOuthampton / Bournemouth area?
The code I got from the fridge sticker is:
S20B RBB20 -A/G I hope this is the right one? Thanks very much for the help given

KeymasterDave will be able to get them for you Richard (spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk) although it’s probably best to have the oxygen handy knowing Whirlpool, as they’re not exactly reknowned for selling spares cheap. 🙄
