Whirlpool side by side not defrosting

Hi,

Have a whirlpool FRSS2AVAF20 which has a problem not going through its defrost cycle, so ice is continually building up. The result being that although the freezer remains cool the fridge gradually gets warmer as the airflow stops.

I have yet to check the heater element, the bi metal has already been changed – I have a couple of questions, any of which would be of great help:

Is there anyway to put the freezer into a manual defrost cycle?

What sort resistance should the element give and what voltage should I expect going to it?
