ParticipantHello,
I have a Whirlpool WSG5588, the freezer is perfect at -18 degrees celsius but the fridge is at 20 degrees celsius instead of 5. The damper is not broken and I’ve taken a look at the evaporator which should be fine, even ran a self test which turned on the defrost circuit and melted all the ice. I was taking another look and I have found a panel in the bottom left of the fridge side, when I removed it I found insulation and a lot of ice stuck into it.
Picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5tb00b235p1mw … 4.jpg?dl=0 does anyone know that part of the fridge is responsible for, suggestions are welcome. I think that is going to the condenser?
I’ve also tested the heating element, the bimetallic switch and also all the relays on the rear board, all of them are able to switch. Main issue with the unit was that 6th sense is always, evaporator fan is spinning, damper is working and fridge is still not cold.
Thanks.

The most likely cause is the damper to be honest as, that has to open to let cold air into the fridge, if it doesn’t do that as it should you get exactly the problem you describe.
I can’t think on anything else on those that would cause that.

I’ve noticed a new thing which I was not noticing with the freezer filled with food, while empty the freezers temp got up to 2 degrees celsuis. This was after 3 hours of turning it on, funny thing is 1 hour before the temp fell down to 2 it was -17 degrees celsuis which is correct.
3 hours of the unit being turned on shouldn’t be enough to block the evaporator, working defrost circuit or not so there goes my defrost theory.
Any ideas?

Indicated or measured temperature as, if there’s a sensor faulty you cannot trust the display.

Hi
That channel at the bottom right of the freezer should be clear. defrost the whole of the fridge freezer and leave off for 48 hrs and leave the doors open then restart as normal.

The temperature readings I have got are not from the units sensors but from my multi meters K temperature probe. As for the temperature sensors on the fridge and the freezer I am assuming that they’re good as while it was off and the inside at room temp (for 36 hours), I did an ohms test on both sensors and they had around the same resistance which makes it seem like they’re good (unless they’re both bad which is very unlikely)r600a wrote:Hi

I’ve already tried to completely defrost it, left it off for about 2 days with the doors opened, for 2 hours it worked perfectly, freezer was almost at -18 and fridge was almost at 5. Then at the 3rd hour that it was on temps got very bad with the freezer being at 2 and the fridge being at 15.As for the “channel at the bottom right of the freezer” I didn’t get what you mean by it.

Also here’s a picture of the evaporator ~4 hours after the unit was turned on from being off for 2 days. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rg40i5vd6l4mw … 0.jpg?dl=0

Hi
Do you hear the fan running ? You may need to push the light switch in.

Oh yes the evaporator fan is running perfectly fine, same goes for the fan on the back. Today I took out the connection plug that connects to the compressor, its solder was white as a paper. I replaced all of the solder on that start device, has been running for 5 hours for now temps are at -15 and compressor is running when the back fan is running.
Still not assuming that the issue was fixed, only time will tell.

Hi
If it does not cure it then it’s time to have an experienced engineer in as all the advise given can only go so far without actually testing components and being in front of the appliance.
