ParticipantI have a 2-year-old Whirlpool American Side by Side Fridge Freezer S20BRSS31. Recently the Fridge/Freezer Ice/Water Dispenser Control Panel lights have started to continuously flicker and click on/off about 2/3 times per second. If I switch the fridge to standby/vacation or lower the fridge temperature the lights remain steady, but start to flicker again whilst the water dispenser/light is being used. The ice dispenser motor has the same effect and sounds a bit laboured even when not under load. The water filter light is permanently on yellow and cannot be reset (new filter fitted).
Do I need a new Control Board?

The flickering and clicking is normally a fault with the rear board.
You can’t reset the filter light until it has turned red.
When the replacement board is fitted the light should be green.DP

Many thanks for your reply DP
When you refer to the rear board, do you mean the circuit board behind the control panel or is there one at the rear of the fridge freezer, currently buried in the kitchen units!

The main PCB is at the rear of the unit.

Thanks again DP
Had a look at the rear of the unit, guess the PCP is encased in the ‘black box’. My mechanical engineering skills normally stop at black boxes, so have called for an engineer – due Monday. Will post results.

Had a call from the engineer today, he diagnosed the problem over the phone as the PCB behind the front control panel – will cost around £180 to replace and set up!
Would that be the going rate?, as it’s a 5 min job to replace, not sure about the setting up.

Many thanks for that Penguin45. I await the engineer’s visit now with some trepidation.
My service No is 8586 151 15011, I didn’t see this No mentioned, so not sure if I’ve got the ‘improved’ board.
I’ll await the outcome of the engineer’s visit and then have a go at Whirlpool and maybe contact Watchdog.

Your service number indicates the later electronics are fitted to your machine.
It may be the front board at fault on your machine, however, I’ve just replaced the rear board on mine (again) for a flickering display and clicking relay.
4 years old and has had 4 ice makers, 3 damper valves, 3 rear pcb’s (flickering display and clicking relay), 2 sets of infra reds, 1 front pcb (CF error) and 1 ice dispenser motor.
As far as I am aware (nothing in the manual about it) there is no setting up to do after a board change, other than set the desired temperatures.DP

Today suddenly all went normal. The lights stopped flashing and the filter light turned red. I pushed my luck and reset the filter to green.
You’ve guessed, the lights started flashing again! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Got this problem with the flicker and the ice problem
Can anyone give an approximate cost to fix this?
Thanks
