as the agitator fits over the splines it doesnt need to be removed to chcck the gear box, just grab hold of the lower half
After the motor has turned in wash direction you should not be able to move the agi by hand.
After the motor has turned in the spin direction and pumped out the water, and taken the brake off, the agi is free to turn by hand. (otherwise the machine would try to agitate on spin and rip the clothing)
So turning the agi by hand is of no use to check a spin problemDecember 6, 2007 at 9:43 am #207655bzz67

i have this priblem now on one of these, but after reading this thread, i thought it was going to be a gearbox fault until i read the last entry from spanner51. can anyone suggest what i go for.

You can check for a worn clutch by putting the machine through a spin cycle then have a feel of the clutch cup on top of the gearbox.
If its bl**dy hot then the clutch is worn and the gearbox is probably ok.
Try the spin cycle with the lid up You should be able to turn the drum by hand whilst the motor is running. Also check for oil contamination of the clutch often indicated by a line of oil sprayed round the inside of the cabinet.
Easy machines to work on but I would never bring one in for repair 🙂

Just been to one of these this morning with ‘no spin’ complaint. Read this thread and phoned the customer and asked her to try it on a wash cycle.
She reports back that it will not wash or spin. Does this suggest the drive coupling ( wherever that is ) is at fault or would a worn clutch cause loss of wash and spin.
Could not find a model number or a rating plate anywhere. The only thing I could see was under the lid at the bottom of the instructions, it says Stylemaster 4217142 Rev A.
first one I have looked at.
I have pictures of the console and the underside.

Jim,
Model no. : Open the lid, get your head down level with it and look at the casing under the bottom edge of the lid. You’ll find the rating plate there, under a build-up of soap powder.
If it’s not washing or spinning the most likely cause is the flexible drive coupling. It’s easy to change. Unscrew the two control console fixing screws [ 1 either side, at front or back depending on model], lift the console up and flip it over backwards out of the way. Unplug the supply to the lid switch where it goes into the casing , flip off the two brass clips holding the casing onto the machine with bent-nosed pliers and the casing pulls off. Lift it over the water outlet spout carefully and watch the back panel which will drop backwards and is only held by the pressure tube.
Unplug the supply to the motor and capacitor. There are two black springclips holding the motor onto the gearbox. Unscrew these fromthe motor carefully so as not to drop the screws into the motor [ they’re not magnetic] and flip them off. The motor and pump then can be pulled away from the gearbox and the three parts of the drive can then be removed. A white plastic 3-armed drive on the motor and the gearbox and a rubber resilient connector between them. You’ll probably find that one or more of the white plastic arms has broken off. You usually have to tap the new ones on gently with a hammer.

As you said Geoff, easy, peasy apart from being in a dark cellar with a tiny 40 watt light bulb. 😥
Model is a 3LSR6233EQ1. Is the part number you gave in the second post in this thread the correct one for this machine?
