ParticipantThe saga continues. Sadly.
My old pump actually has 3 spade connectors, as pictured here:

Two where I would normally expect them, and one on the metal part of the pump.
The three connectors are connected using a blue wire, a green wire and a white wire.
They feed into a rubber protective thing here:

The inside of it looks like this:

My new pump only has two places for the spade connectors:

I need to know what wires to hook up to my 2 new spade connectors, and what, if anything, to do with the third wire. Also, am I right in assuming that this rubber protective thing was meant to protect the electrical connections from dampness, etc.? If so, any kind of mods you suggest for it, like boring it out, running my existing wires through it, etc.??
As usual, thanks for your help. I’ve scoured the internet but have found no answers….:(June 18, 2020 at 2:22 pm #468528electrofix
Moderatorold pump needs an earth new pump does not
assuming Green wire is the earth (normally is) so does not need to be connected

ParticipantAnd having cut that rubber housing off, so I could get to the wires..voila….the original pump wires are now not long enough to get to the new position of the spade connectors. So, I’ll have to lengthen them. Obstacle after obstacle. By looking at the position of the wires, it appears that perhaps the white wire should no longer be used – that it’s the green wire and blue wire that should be attached to the spade connectors, and the white wire is just taped off. I think. LOL

ParticipantUgh – messages crossed again.
In looking at the way the wires go into that rubber thing:

And then turning around that rubber thing to show where the connectors are:

Would you think that the white wire was the one that’s not needed???June 18, 2020 at 2:40 pm #468531electrofix
Moderatoranything is possible inside a machine. the only way you could be certain is to use a multimeter to test if the cable connects to the chassis or trace it back and see if it does

ParticipantOhms test. Ugh. It’s the white and blue that I need. Lol

ParticipantThanks again…I think I can manage this now…..:)

ParticipantNo, I can’t manage now. Now I have to learn about wire gauge. The wire coming out of the machine for the pump is fairly heavy – certainly heavier than what would be used for a lamp. Do you know what gauge wire I should use? I have to stop apologizing for all these questions….ugh

ParticipantI’m reading. I guess 12 gauge.

ParticipantWell, people seem to like a ‘solved’ post at the end of these threads. So..solved, but not without a great amount of questions, inconvenience, adventure, etc. Even up to the very last minute, when, having all connected and ready to bolt the pump back on to the machine, it appears that Whirlpool was kind enough not only to change the pump and electrical connection, but even the size of the bolts that would fit the new pump. The old bolts were too big – the rubber washer the old bolts used were useless. Of course, I don’t have the proper size bolts – the new pump fits snugly into the rubber housing that affixed to the machine, and is currently screwed it with wood screws. I’ll get bolts tomorrow – and test it then, as well. Frankly, I’m sick of looking at it now….lol
