ParticipantGot a call later in the week to look at a 5 year old top-loader- Whirlpool American Collection 3RGSC 9455 JQO is model number.
Its not spinning but customer reports that it did drain.
I’ve never worked on one of these before, whats it likely to be.
Anyone got any service info, I want to arrive prepared.November 19, 2007 at 12:56 pm #234561AMS

Pretty straightforward. The coupling is fitted between the motor and gearbox. I find the best way to get to it is to disconnect pipes etc and lay machine carefully on it’s back. You will need A/F tools as it’s of American origin. 5/16 socket I think. The motor is held to the gearbox by 2 big spring clips held on by a bolt on each. Definately worth taking a coupling with you as they’re not that expensive. £8.26 + vat trade from Connect.

tbh the easiest way is to take the cabinet off 2 screws on the fascia that then lifts up. Remove the plug for the door switch then there is 2 metal clips that hold the cabinet on. Remove those and the cabinet pulls away. Then its just a case of removing the pump with the 2 clips and then taking the motor off again with 2 clips .The drive fits between the motor and the gearbox. YOu will prob find the plastic teath have broken off on the old one

Hi Seamy,
you can do this repair by just tilting the machine back against the wall.
No need to disconnect hoses or remove cabinet.

I agree with you Alan, that’s the way I usually do it. I was just trying to make it easier for Seamy for the first time until he develops his own technique. Cabinet off??????? 😯

Afraid its not the coupling.
Must be a fault in the gear box or the transmission?November 24, 2007 at 8:50 pm #234569spanner51

Take the cabinet off chaps, tilting these things back do them no good at all and is unessesary. IMO Someone went to a lot of trouble to make these easy to service in situ and the fact the machine does not even need moving means it is quicker and easier to remove the cabinet. 2 screws and 2 spring clips.
Seamy, tell us more about what it is doing? ie motor running?

Motor is running, & pumping out.
No agitation and no spinning.
Is there a brake on them?November 25, 2007 at 1:29 pm #234572eastlmark

assuming the rubber/plastic coupling is OK then I would think its a gearbox problem. Not too difficult to sort out and probably worth the effort.
