All you’ve got there is the motor at the bottom.there is also a control fuse behind the control panel

Does the drum rotate when it goes into spin?
Is it happy when doing the wash cycle? I.e. agitator twisting back and forth with drum staying still.
Are the drum brakes releasing properly, if not then they could be the cause of smoke.
Is the motor getting red hot?
You should be able to run the machine with the cabinet off, this will let you see where the smoke is coming from.

I will take the cabinet off as suggested. The drum struggles to even agitate let alone spin now. Possibly brake issue, meaning they have ceased the drum in place. The the temperature of the motor does not exceed what I believe to be normal.
I will investigate and feed back,
Apprechiate the replies guys,

The brake should only affect the spinning of the drum not the agitation of the agitator.
Draw a line on the side of the clutch to make it easier to see if it is moving.
It is also worth checking for jammed washing between tub and drum as that will stop it spinning.

Hi,
The drum seems to move freely anti clockwise then jams until I apply a lot of force to free the tub. It jams completely and is very hard to move clockwise. I’ve checked between the tubs and there is no washing to obstruct movement.
Everything on the clutch has been swapped out with what Whirlpool supply in the kit (everything apart from the metal housing,)
Do you think it could be an issue with the transmission / gearbox ? I seem to recall it uses a different cog for if it is agitating or spinning,
Timo
