Hi
I see there’s some Whirlpool expertise out there, so here’s a challenge for you.
Our Whirlpool American side by side fridge freezer has packed up.
It started with an intermittent fault: it would work for 2 days, then stopped, taking out the trip on the mains circuit with it.
Resetting the trip, then reconnecting the appliance immediately, simply caused the trip to go again, but if it was left for a day or so, then reconnected, it would start again & the process would repeat.
It has now deteriorated so that the “on” time has shortened & the “off” time increased such that it now just trips out the circuit every time we try to connect.
It sounds like a time or temperature related electrical fault. I assume it’s not the thermostat, but something that was initially activated when the appliance cools to it’s operating temperature & has now failed altogether.
I rewired the plug & tried it without the internal bulbs but this made no difference. I’m now out of ideas. I assume it’s not the PCB as this would not have failed intermittently, or would it ?
Any other ideas out there. I’m pretty handy mechanically & understand the basics of electrics, but don’t know which of the many part in the appliance could be faulty & don’t want to end up replacing it part by part
I referred to Whirlpool who offered my nothing apart from an expensive callout & potentially expensive repair bill, which isn’t justifiable as the appliance is about 8 years old
Any ideas gratefully received.
