    Hi
I’ve an old but generally good W120. Recently the drum has started to knock, so much so I think I’ll be getting a visit from the Noise Abatement Society.
I found, but have now lost, a site that was selling spare rubber bushes to resolve the problem, that is if I’ve correctly diagnosed it.
Q1) Is it the rubber bushes need replacing ?
    Q2) Is it something else?
Incidentally if the load is balanced it works almost perfectly

    Many thanks

Drum spider could be cracked, is there any play in the drum?

    Suspension leg, spring?

You’d need to do a little bit of looking first to see what’s broken. 😉

    I’ll strip it down tomorrow.
Not quite sure what the bits are you mentioned there. Can I download a diagram anywhere?
So long as I can get good access I’d thought to push the drum around and try recreate the problem then reveres engineer it to locate the fault. Sensible?
“When the load is balanced it runs well and pretty quietly” – does that eliminate anything?

Ok got the top and the back off.
Can’t recreate the hammer with side to side motion and all 4 springs are good. Drum is firm and well supported.
However there is a transit lug to the rear of the concrete weight which if the drum is rocked back to front will knock on the rear upper casing bar.
Cant see any limiters / springs etc which could restrict this movement. Front to rear motion easy to firm.
What am I looking for and where?
Just noticed that under the drum are 2 stabilizers. Steel brackets bolted to the body and passing through rubber bushes on drum lugs. Tilt drum side to side and the lugs will move “within” the rubber bushes !! Worn bushes and excess travel?
Failing that I can’t immediately see anything else.

What’s the 12NC of the machine? It’s on the rating plate, a production number basically.

    Ok we have a W120,
    long number is 419611007967
    below that is 20081
    Type is 77015
    BEAB Approved
That’s all that’s on the plate other than voltage, spin rate etc.
    It is a UK machine

Just spun it up with a load. The noise sounds to be lower down than I’d thought. I noted that the belt tensioner on the motor flange looks worn where the bolt goes through. It may be that it’s sliding when on spin and creating a rattle as the belt is slack and the bolt is at the top of its permitted travel. Will check when the cycle’s complete.

Think that’s it. Released the belt and the motor dropped in the slot. Will tighten it up and test as soon as another wash is due and report back.
