This washing machine had me confused, the machine was used daily by an elderly couple. It started off as DOA the washing machine not the couple! The machine in question is 3 years old.

The insulation readings were over 2000 mohm. checked the board, one of the resistors was blown which I sent it off for repair to QER. It came back with no info on what action needed to take.

Correct me if I am wrong, usually board get blown if one of the component was playing up rather than on its own, right? I checked the motor, clean as a whistle with plenty of brushes left but there is no earth (?). Should I make earth connection to the motor or is this intended? I am sure that all motors I have worked on are earthed but this machine was the first that didn’t have earth. I thought maybe the wire was loose so I looked for the stray earth wire but nothing there. Did the manufacture overlooked this one?

I checked the heater for open circuit but appears to be in working order.

Should I replace the interlock for good measure even though it is working?

I can confirm that the repaired board is working as the machine lit up and got into action. Perhaps it was a rogue board?

But the lack of earth on the motor puzzled me. Any thoughts? Would it do any harm if I make earth connection to the motor?

Turned out that the board overheated caused by mains power being left on 24/7.

That still leaves the “missing” earth for the motor. Won’t do any harm by attaching earth to the motor casing.

Just a case to work out where to piggy back from the earth lead to the motor.
