Participanti came across this on a hotpoint today that is not on the list, similiar model but different drum size but not covered under the recall, should i be concerned about doing a like for like replacement on the door lock do you think?

ParticipantIf it’s not been recalled, go ahead with the repair. Whirlpool must have their reasons to only recall certain models. Perhaps its a particular combination of lock type, harness type and heater power. It’s a pity they choose not to share the technical details.

Participantjust seems strange as connector is pretty burnt out.

if they keep adding models that’s going to be so confusing to customers and they may have already checked the list

KeymasterDoes anyone want to take odds on how long it’ll be before there are calls for all of them to be checked regardless?

ParticipantOf a quick sample of 5 recent models I’ve come across with burnt out lock connector blocks this year, 3 are on the list, 2 are not (HE8L493GUK, WMAQC641PUK).
From my earlier post, that’s one of the missing models accounted for. I suspect the list will grow further. The cynic in me wonders if this is a deliberate plan to manage their workload.

I wondered if this is the case from the outset.

Moderatordont they realise this is stupid. There are lots of customers who have checked their machine and now think its ok. They are unlikley to check twice so we have lots of preventable fires waiting to happen

ParticipantIt can’t be that difficult to identify models or industrial codes and serial number ranges with a particular type of lock or electrical design. I wonder if instead they are selecting models on a purely statistical basis, based on number of fires/burnouts.

ParticipantIt’s just the ones on the model list that have been fitted with the ‘Super Small’ Metalflex ZV449 PTC interlock. Asking a customer to check Factory/CC and serial number ranges would be way too complicated.
