    Hi, I’ve recently run into an error code ‘H’ on the digital display accompanied by a series of beeps on my Whirlpool integrated dishwasher.
    It started out of the blue, the dishwasher is a couple of years old, used daily but well looked after. Below is a summary of symptoms and what turned out to be the fault. I spent quite a few hours reading numerous posts on this forum and others to try and resolve the issue, and a couple of weeks washing dishes by hand… Maybe this will assist someone get to the solution quicker.

    The symptoms were;

    • start any programme – after closing the door it would make the usual long beep to confirm the programme had started
    • machine would begin filling – after a short while three short beeps within one second, then a single beep repeated every 5 seconds. All the while the machine sounds like it’s filling.
    • After approx 2 minutes of filling it will start to run the wash programme for about 20 seconds then switch to pumping out.
    • machine starts to fill again – after a short while same beep sequence, after two minutes of filling a short 20 seconds of washing then it pumps out again.
    • machine fills, beep sequence, short wash and pumps out again for a third time.
    • programme aborts – dishes haven’t been washed.

    In my case the fault was in the turbine used to measure incoming water volume. The turbine is part of a clear plastic assembly found on the left side of the machine behind the metal side panel. On Whirlpool’s parts diagram its referred to as the ‘Air Break + Turbine’.

    This support post on another forum seemed to be the same issue but I wasn’t certain.

    This quite boring video shows the clear plastic air break + turbine in the fault condition. Water is coming into the machine and whilst it’s hard to see when I zoom in to the blue turbine it’s spinning so the fault must have been with the sensor. In the video you can hear the beep sequence.

    It’s quite straightforward to change the air break part, which is secured by the screw on plastic cap in the inside left wall of the dishwasher, there’s one sensor wire on the turbine and one pipe clip at the bottom where the incoming water supply connects. The machine should be unplugged when you do any parts change.
