    Hi all,
MY whirlpool S20DRS33 has been clicking and flashing whenever the ice maker was turned on or water used (water would spurt) for about 9 months now. More recently the fridge began to warm up with lots of condensation building but the the freezer continued to work perfectly. Additionally the central bar was on occasion becoming very hot.
Then last week the fridge started alarming and clicking with the freezer temperature display flashing –. After a day of doing this the everthing defrosted and the compressor was no longer kicking in at all. all that could be heard was the sound of the fan in the freezer section and the large compressor fan rear bottom. the display continued to alarm and flash and click as described earlier. A whirpool engineer came out and said it was a faulty compressor fan, rear control board and freezer door switch and as such a £700.00 repair bill. He advised me to buy a new fridge. I removed the lower back plate and could see the compressor fan was working OK. Then having trawled through the web i came about this site and its fantastic advice.
Having read the advice about faulty rear modules i ordered a repair kit and yesterday replaced all the capacitors.
This has resolved the clicking when the ice maker is switched on or when water is drawn but unfortunately still no compressor does anybody have any ideas?

It sounds like the compressor has failed.
If the condenser/compressor fan runs so should the compressor.
You could after unpluging test for continuity through the three pin compressor terminals in a triangle, after removing the relay/ptc etc, three values should be read, resistance will be different between all three terminals but two should add up to the value of the other reading.
If one is open circuit it would be a new compressor, specialist job.

Hi Riess, I had exactly the same problems and bought a repair kit. It also solved all the problems except the compressor would not work. Advice on here suggested a failed compressor but I had doubts. Both fans were running fine. My appliance is a s20brsb21, I believe it functions similarly yours. Check there is power to the compressor, mine wasn’t getting 240v from the PCB to switch it on, another faulty component on the PCB. I’m in the process of working it out at the moment and will post on here, it may save your fridge and the cost of a compressor change.

If you work through the fault finding procedure in the correct order, ie establish a supply at the compressor,if OK test compressor components and the windings then you will have the correct answer,if no supply at compressor check continuity back to the board, then the board and associated relay..
Establishing the fault correctly reduces wasted time and money either for yourself or the customer.
