The machine (product no: 859247415000) is dead as a dodo! There’s power to the module but not from it, no lights, nothing! 😯

I’ve taken the module off completely and visually checked it and it looks fine but I can only assume the thing is faulty- dunno? 😕

Connect list 2 or maybe 3 modules fitting this beast and with no exploded drawing I cannot fully identify what I need? All I know is the modules they do list are not only funny money but not stock items either?

Shall I tell my customer to throw it on the landfill and buy a Bosch, or what I wonder? 😥

Please can you help me and this yummy mummy?

    Hi Martin,
The part number you need is: 481221470046
That is for the programmed Ctrl Board, the unprogrammed version (you need a SAM to programme it) is virtually half the price.
    Not cheep either way.

    Thanks a million Jackster.

Tell me, do you think my diagnosis is correct? 🙂

You’re not kidding! Connect list it as having an SRP of £198.21 😯

Masterpart have never heard of it so not able to compare quotes. I’m up a creek without a paddle on this, the part is a special order item and there’s no guarantee it will sort the fault?

Have any of you Whirlpool guys had this fault before I wonder? 😕

Sounds identical to fella i looked at 6 weeks ago Martin. Power to module, but dead otherwise, seem to remember similar price for PCB. Machine was barely out of guarantee, told punter to try bending manufacturers ear.. no doubt its bean cans by now.. :rolls:

Hi Martin, i have had this very problem myself, and after finding out the cost of a new board I decided to find the problem with the original. It turns out that there is a 22ohm 2watt wirewound resistor on the board that goes. I replaced the part and have had no problems since

TBH I never saw such a device on this module board? 😕

A 22 Ohm wirewound is (if I recall at least?) a large white resistor that sits proud of most popular motor control module boards isn’t it? If that’s the case, this module doesn’t have one of them. It does have a row of 3 relay boxes and my guess is one of them ain’t working maybe? Dunno?

All I know from looking at it closely is that the miniscule surface mounted resistors, capacitors and microprocessors all look in good nick? Not sure about the large rotary selector switch unit either? On Bosch modules you can see the double pole contacts making and breaking, on this unit you can’t? 🙁

I’m stumped and I think it’s way out of order that the replacement component is rendering what otherwise is a perfectly workable and well made appliance, to the scrap yard. 👿

How the hell can a 4 inch by 5 inch PCB cost over £150 for Christ’s sake?

Who is taking who for a mug here? Certainly on the face of it Whirlpool have a lot to answer to. If it cost £50 then I could sort it and everyone would be well happy, but £150?………come on guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn’t look like the usual larger ceramic type resistor, it looks more like a normal carbon resistor.
If its possisble to post a picture of the board, I should be able to point out the part.
I had a job finding a suitable resistor, and found some which were a bit larger an had to cut a rectangular piece out of the plastic holder to accomodate it.

This is what they look like http://www.welwyn-tt.com/pdf/datasheet/EMC.PDF

    Cheers,
    Martin

Maybe Tony at EMW would be worth a call on this.. hellish waste if its BER already. Ironic if this becomes common, considering the long thread we’ve had about sealed drums.. the drums might not get the chance to wear out !! 😯

    Re: Whirpool AWO/D5706 dead!

hi all. got one of these machines to do at the mo.you are right about the cost of the boards..bl**dy ridiculous. Can get whole machine for price of pcb….masterpart selling the equivalent machine for £150+vat and the board is £160 +vat.
But am interested in this 22 ohm resistor. If it can be repaired that will be great. Is it definatley 22 ohm not 220 or 22k? as cant find anybody that makes one. Do you remember the colours on it?and can you help with a picture or rough idea of location of it
    Thanks in advance Gav

    Re: Whirpool AWO/D5706 dead!

Hi Gav, I too had a great deal of trouble finding this component.
it is indeed a 22ohm 2 watt wirewound resistor.
I got mine from CPC (http://cpc.farnell.com/)
and the part number is RE03297
It is physically larger and the plastic cover has to be cut slightly to allow fitment.
I think it has to be soldered both sides of the board too if I remember right.

    *****UPDATE*****

Took the board out today and SPOT ON Martin. 22ohm resistor gone (red/red/black). Thats definately one to remember. Just gotta wait for CPC now. Thanks again mate

    Re: Whirpool AWO/D5706 dead!

    Hi all
Board repaired ok(Cheers Martin spot on).Found Maplins had 3watt 22 ohm wirewound resistors in stock so no need to cut the casing The CPC one as Martin says you need to cut a piece out the case as they have extended legs on them. Thats definatley one to remember.Actually make it a job rather than a call out charge. (This was an AWO/D5547)

    Thanks again Martin

PS Dont know what you charged but I took the board away repaired it and charged £70 for the job…..sound fair??

Thats ok Gav, glad you sorted it ok.
I will have to get the Maplin ones in then from now on.
    All the best
    Martin.
