ParticipantHello,
I think I have two separate problems with this. Any advice would be much appreciated.
1. Drum seems reluctant to turn – used to turn quite easily by hand, when checking for odd socks, but now seems very heavy. Also, a nasty screechy noise (think fingernails on blackboard) started around the same time as I noticed the turning problem.
2. I took it apart hoping to spot an answer to problem number 1, and one of the heating elements looks like it’s part-fried. I’m not sure how to identify it so I can order a spare from you. I do have a photo which I think shows it fairly clearly, so could post that if helpful.
Many thanks

Quite probably the front or rear bearing has failed as well as the heater. 🙁

That doesn’t seem so bad. A quick glance at your spare parts section suggests that those bearings – 421307740952 and 421309205591 – are pretty cheap. Are they hard to fit ? Happy to order those and give it a try, if it’s not going to be a nightmare job. Have I got the right part numbers ?
Re. the heating element, it looks like there are two separate elements, but looking at your spares section it seems that it’s all just a single assembly, namely PS3402. Is that right ? It’s still working pretty well at the moment, but if I’m opening it up anyway I might as well do this at the same time.
BTW, off-topic but as you’re reading this anyway: I really appreciated your help on dishwashers a few weeks ago. In the end, I couldn’t afford to spend £ 900 on the ISE, much as I liked it, but we’ve gone for a mid-range Bosch at £ 450 (guided by the Buying Advice forum and Which ? ratings) which I hope will do a good job for a few years at least.
Thanks

No worries.
If you’re happy taking the dryer to bits then yes, both the bearings are relatively easy to replace and cheap as well.
Heater, as you say, is also very cheap.
I think those are correct but to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} I’ll ask Dave to double check it in a bit.

Yep, those are correct but occasionally on the front there are two longer bearing pads as well, there’s no way to be certain without taking it apart first
Let me know if those are on there and I’ll add them to the website for you.

Thanks for that info. I’ll take the dryer apart again in a couple of days and let you know what I find at the front so that I can order the right bits.

Hello again,
Finally got round to taking the dryer to bits and I’ve attached a couple of photos of the inside, which I hope will help to identify which front bearing(s) I need.
Please could you let me know the relevant part numbers, if the photos have given you enough information.
Thanks as always

Sorry. The old unattached attachment trick.

Thanks for your help so far. I’ve fitted the new bearings and element and the drum certainly turns more freely. But…I’m still hearing fingernails-on-blackboard. It’s only for the first couple of minutes of the cycle, as before, but it’s the sort of noise that I don’t think I should ignore. I’ve taken off the lower back panel and run the dryer, and the noise sounds like it’s coming from the motor – are there any particular points that tend to need lubricating or cleaning ?
Thanks
