ParticipantI looked at a White Knight last as a last call.
Customer complained the element only seems to work on low heat when high heat is selected and no heat when low is selected.
The element and both of the rear stats test out OK. I suspect the problem is the exhaust stat but the machine was in a tiny shed full of clutter, dark with a security light flashing on and off outside. I had had enough, it almost ended up at the bottom of the garden. I decided to call it a day before I lost my temper.
What is the best way to get to the exhaust stat on this machine? I had a quick look and assume it’s the fascia off then the front panel complete with front duct. As I couldn’t lay the machine down and it was getting late I didn’t explore much further. Again as this appears to intermittent there is a good chance I will get to the stat and it will test out OK.
Also has anyone got a wiring diagram for this machine?

Would it be the exhaust stat if it heats on low…… 😕

Open circuit exhaust stat would kill all heat.
If I remember correctly the high/low heat switch switches half the heater on and off so I’d suspect a wiring problem or a fault on one half of the heater.Brian

The customer said it heats on low, when I checked it heated for a few minutes then It wouldn’t heat on either setting.

According to the drawing it is locate at the base of the front ducting. No idea how you access it though, sorry? 🙁

AlanI tried to get access this way releasing the screws at the bottom of the front panel but I couldn’t reach up to the stat to test or remove it.

Only way in is from rear, drum out.. The real problem is getting the plastic fan off. Its a helluva machine to work on and thats with lots of room.
I changed one of these stats a couple of weeks back for o/heat problem, wish I’d never started!!!

Got very much same problem as Twoten with one of these. Totally blocked into a miserable cupboard/alcove behind a washer and a big f/freezer which would have to be taken out (and put where?) before I could get enough space to do any serious dismantling.
Problem is that m/c doesn’t seem to get high heat according to customer.
Now, interestingly, the element measures 15ohms through one half and 45ohms through other half. Does anyone know if that is right? I had expected it to be half and half but maybe I’m wrong. It looks/feels intact.
Incidentally, I’ve already replaced the cycling stat and the safety stat over the heater and when I crushed the old ones I thought I had it as the cycling stat contacts were quite well burnt. Have checked low heat switch and that measures OK. Maybe I should look at timer?
TIA.

How badly restricted is the airflow, Mike? If it really is stuffed into a corner it may be as simple as that.

Didn’t think of that. But I’m pretty sure the thing ‘s been in there for a good while, presumably functioning normally. There’s no junk around it. I might have exaggerated how tight the space is. I managed to turn it sideways to get the back heater cover off.
See you haven’t broken your habit of staying up late!
