White Knight drier 427WV – noisy

Daughter’s White Knight 427WV tumble drier is turning and heating but very noisy (high speed buzzing). Seems motor related and not drum related. Difficult to describe a whizzing sound which could be bearings / brushes? (do they have brushes)?

Belt is tight and motor spindle does not appear to have play in it.

Advice and help please.

Fan on front of motor most likely culprit – HERE.

Power off if you intend to do this yourself.

Hi Penguin,

I see where you’re coming from, but can’t check until tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ve discovered (as you probably already know) it’s an induction motor and therefore no brushes.

But but why would you get this buzzing sound (and yes, it does sound like the old Mini fan in the cowling from back in the 1960s)? Does the fan collapse? There’s no way for a foreign object to get in because even the base of the drier is sheet metal . . .

The plastic fan is a push on fit onto a splined shaft, it is very common for these to come adrift without any outside influence. Plastic, heat, expansion….. 😉

It was the fan; it had come loose a little on the shaft and had come foward until it fouled the casing attached toon the front panel.
