    Sorta..

    White Knight Relaunched

From what I can gather it’s just another brand now. 🙁

I have no idea on what’s happening with service etc.

It tickles me that you can buy a machine like that now when 30 years ago a “basic” washing machine was a lot more.

When I think back to those days, it was quite a lot of weeks wages to be able buy a machine outright. Not so nowadays 🙁

Which is why that most of them are crap I expect.

What cracks me up is that people still expect as good, as durable and as long lasting for what, a tenth or less of the price.

    probably Vestel who took over

all of the other appliances sold were vestel anyway as far as I know. The only thing they made was the dryer.

And that did not change much for 40 years. still have a whirlpool service book somewhere with the same components as it was whirlpool that made the original design.

According to that marvellous resource Wikipedia, it looks like Whirlpool acquired a 53{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} stake in the large appliances division of Philips in 1988, with the remaining 47{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} being bought in 1991. From Companies House records, it looks like Philips had already offloaded their tumble dryer and Hostess Trolley business to Crosslee in 1986, so never part of Whirlpool.

What I haven’t been able to find, is when and from whom Whirlpool acquired the tumble dryer factory in Amiens, France, which under the Whirlpool name produced one of the best tumble dryer designs on the market.

The site was acquired when Whirpool bought Philips Home Appliances in 1990 which at the time produced washing machines since 1958, expanded to make dryers then cut back in 2002.

    You’re welcome. 😉

yes remember the early philips small dryer, the fan was screwed onto the motor shaft and had to be removed to fit the belt

like all designs those days engineered to last

philips had depots and used ot go to them to get spares. the one in liverpool was in Speke
