WhiteKnight 767c – drum won’t turn

I have a WhiteKnight Condenser 767c tumble dryer. The drum won’t turn. I took off the top of the machine and checked the belt – it is tight to the drum. The drum would turn but felt as if it was off centre, like it had fallen out of its holding.

I pulled off the back of the machine (VERY gently) and have spotted what I believe the problem may be. I’ll do my best to describe it fully, it’s impossible to get a good picture.

There is some kind of clamp which seems to hold the drum to the back panel. This clamp is located in the centre of the circle which makes up the back of the drum. It’s broken, with an irregular tear which to me means something hasn’t just popped out. This matches up with the way the drum could be turned by hand earlier but felt off centre.

OK, it certainly doesn’t look like a repair I can do myself. But my question is to ask if it’s worth getting someone in to repair this and roughly how much the part is, or is it a case of a new machine?[/img]

The drum “spider” has disintegrated – it isn’t a spare, so the replacement part is a new drum assembly – likely to be £70-80 plus.

I have to say that looking at the state of the spider, it must have been noisy for some time………

Ah, I had a feeling it might be the drum needing replacing, and not a job I’d like to take on myself.

Thank you very much for the replies, it’s reassuring to have some impartial advice. I’ll do some sums about getting a repair done, but it may be a case of replacement. And yes the machine had been noisy but not much more than it had been when we first got it. Seems I’d better pay a bit more attention. You live, you learn.

The repair is gonna be about £140 – £170 depending on the exact drum type you have, which is new machine territory.

I seem to take out 1-2 white knights a month tho, so I can keep an eye out for one with a ok s/h drum if you would like?
