Back up to speed again, a couple of hours ago it timed out more than once whilst other sites loaded in seconds.

I’ve seen it on occasion but, mostly it’s a few minutes at most when bots hit from what we can tell. Bog all we can do about it really.

Over the last few months, I experience typical delays in loading UKW forum pages of 10 or 20 seconds, and sometimes a minute or two. I suspect the delays are associated with the social networking apps on the site, as I often see messages in the bottom left of my Chrome browser saying things like “Waiting for cdn.syndication.twitter.com”.
Does anyone else experience this kind of performance? It may well be an issue specific to my Google Chrome setup, but Whitegoods is the only site on which I have this problem. While pages are loading, all navigation tools (scrolling, hyperlinks, forward and back buttons, etc) remain inactive, so navigation through the forums is painfully slow.

Yeah, Facebook can be a particular problem. 🙁
It should be faster now though and, more to come on that front as well. Although, we had to break stuff to fix it.

Fixed our bit.
Been testing for days and, at worst, the average page load time is less than half what it was after it was optimised so now most page loads are sub 0.5 second. Often it’s less than 0.3 second, as near instantaneous as can be in real terms.
Tonight there was a DoS (Denial of Service) attack on the entire network, that caused a huge block of the net to slow down, it wasn’t just us.
It did cause a bit of freaking out though.

Major outage due to a hardware failure. 🙁
Sorry, not a lot we could do other than get it back up online.

After a few days away, UKW forum pages have been loading in lightning speed this evening with almost no lag from social media apps. If that’s down to changes on the site, then they appear to be working!

With the new format being introduced can posts be listed last first? As using via a mobile device you have to wade through pages before finding the latest post of each topic.
Oh and the little icons are somewhat confusing for old gits like me. How Jim manages I have no idea.

Which ‘little icons’?
The ones along the top of each post are blindingly obvious to me. 🙂 -
