ParticipantJust got out of Hospital. Rushed in Sunday morning pulse at 230 😯 dropped to 150 in the afternoon and then back to normal within seconds at 5pm. Only two days before I had been doing the usual all day at a wedding kind of stuff and generally enjoying myself. Day before moseying around to see a mates daughter recording her first band, couple of beers before bed and then……….
Decided not to stay up late anymore on UKW as I think I had been overdoing it 😉
Makes you think though dunnit 😥

Had a scare myself a few weeks ago.
Woke up in the morning and half of my face wouldn’t work so went to A&E thinking had a stroke. Was put in a bed within 10 mins which was worrying but was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy which is not serious and gets better without treatment.
Blood pressure almost broke the machine though so I was put on pills to
fix this and now have normal BP.High BP has no symptoms and is common in over 50’s and can be life threatening.
So get yourselves checked outbefore its too late :lesson:

Aye, taking it easy now. Only doing four ickle calls today most of my regulars who rang up have been great and waited, except for some prat with a blocked Bosch pump who left six messages up to last night…….then when I phoned decided to buy a new machine. 👿

Know what you mean – when my 6 year old son had Meningitis B and was in hospital critically ill, we had a guy who would not understand that his recon machine would be delayed. He said, “OK; I realise your position but I have mountains of washing; I need that machine tomorrow”. I was incredulous…..I didn’t argue I was so shocked at his mindset. I had half finished the machine when my son was taken ill. We had been told to prepare ourselves as he was given less than 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} chance of survival. (He’s now 17 and a very bright A level student, as well as being a talented singer / songwriter, so all ended well).
Well, I got home from the hospital at 11pm that night and of course, I couldn’t sleep.
So I finished the Hotpoint recon and rang him at 3.30am the next day. “I’ll be delivering your machine in the next hour; please be available as this is the only delivery slot I have today”. I ignored his request to call later.
Delivered and fitted by 4.30am and what a weight off my shoulders. Sometimes when you are under extreme stress, you cannot see round the problem. I know I should have told him to stick it, but the sense of satisfaction seeing him making all the excuses was uplifting for me.Take it easy, Tony; hope you feel better.

I would certainly have told him to stick it Steve, surely any decent person would have understood your very serious worry, wished you & your family all the best & left you alone! Anyone so selfish does’nt deserve your attention IMO.
It is the one thing i do find incredibly annoying about being a sole trader, fine when things are bumping along nicely, but inevitably, life bites you hard on yer bum now & then when a family member becomes ill & the very LAST thing i need is then having to ring round tons of people telling the same distressing story over & over as has happened 2 or 3 times over the years 🙁Not sure what the answer is though 😕

This really does put things into perspective.
My next door neighbour died in his bed on monday morning aged 38 leaving a wife and two teenage kids.
A really active bloke playing tennis & football to an almost professional standard and never a days sick in his life.
The post mortem revealed hypertensive heart desease which means in words of one sylable that his heart just burst.
There are no symptoms of high blood pressure and the first symptom is often death!
Get yourselves checked out guys even if you feel OK.

Sadly, I’ve got another two.
A few years back a friend died of coronary failure, read: heart attack, at 34. Active, gym type.. just keeled over one day working out at the gym.
The other week, another friend was in Hong Kong visiting and had a stroke, around the 50 mark. Very, very lucky man as he seems pretty much okay but that doesn’t mean a few of us were more than a tad worried back in Blighty.
It is a worry when you look at your own lifestyle and how many of us think a decent meal is “beef” with cheese wrapped in a bun and exercise is when there’s no drive-through. 😕

my dad had a heart attack after a particularly aggressive day fixing things, fortunately one of our drivers used to be a nurse and noticed the early signs to rush him to hospital. hes pulled through now after major surgery but totally different person to before. has completely changed his mindset. and not always in a good way, including his attitude to certain types of customers!
In the weeks after I experienced a lot of the “but your a business you should be able to get cover for an ill person moron mentality attitude” some customers had. Its what got me interested in fixing the machines, as well as new sales, because I had to do the basic repairs and completing outstanding jobs for customers who couldnt acknowledge he was in a hospital bed whilst he was recoveing.
And i bet those people of that mindset will be teh ones who avoid all major illness, and get to 80 and complain about everything.
