(You can skip to bit in bold, if you are in a hurry.) Went to this twice following report of stopping mid programme with indication of “door not closed” (but door closed).
Was expecting interlock problem but found pump knackered so changed that and went away. Cust called me back. Was appreciative that it now drained much more reliably but still giving door fault. Being very internet savvy, customer had done search on Dutch website and found this fault could be caused by low brushes.
Sure enough brushes were right down and it was now that the customer mentioned that the drum had intermittently not been turning :rolls: .
So did brushes and all looks good.
BUT after re-installing motor (ordinary Ceset type) I noticed there was no earth wire to it, nor any tag to which to connect one :?. Nor was motor earthed via any wire in motor plug. I left it as it was as I need to return with new interlock as old one is building up the carbon inside and will probably not be too long in shorting out and taking timer with it :rolls: .
So I want to know if anyone else has come across a brush motor in a washing machine which did not require an earth. Or is it just that things are done differently in Holland? Should I create an earth connection as I am inclined to do?

    Mike,
Funnily you should say that, i just done carbons on a Beko washer to day, pulled motor block off, then looked for the earth, none on, are we getting to old, and set in our ways, for what we should be looking for.
    TELL..
p.s this was hung on a plastic drum.

This was on a plastic drum too. I did ponder if it could be considered to be “double insulated” as it has the cabinet between it and the consumer. The motor label read, “insulation class B/F” I think it was. The heater, and bearing housing had earth wires and the loom carrying the motor wiring also carried the b/h earth wire making it less obvious that there was no motor earth. I do find this subject confusing especially the way pumps are not earthed. Yet they only have a flimsy plastic cover over the coil.
I noticed on a Beko I did the other day that there was an earth wire incorporated into the ordinary motor plug.
    Mike.
