ParticipantDoes everybody seem to want an “American” side by side nowadays ❓ .
For me the actual amount of space within the freezer compartment is minimal at best. How many times have I cleared one of these to repair, only to find that to get the stuff back in is like doing a jigsaw in the dark with no picture 😈 .
Then there is the ice maker/water dispenser :rolls: . What is the point, does a tap not dispense water ?, ok so you want it cold you say, then why not keep a bottle of the stuff in the fridge then.
Then who gives a toss whether the ice is crushed, cubed or crescent shaped. You’re only going to use the stuff to put in your tipple of choice anyway. Plus the water or ice cube (which ever shape choose) will probably taste awful anyway as it’s been sitting in bloody m/c for ages anyway 😆
What are your thoughts Gents.

Coke glass… 3/4 filled with crushed ice… run vodka 3/4 way up that… fill with coke…
Perfect vodka/coke.
I love my old De Dietrich/Maytag, sorry. 😉
TBH, it’s people that are changing, more people are keeping fresh as opposed to frozen food and so these things are great for that. You can stock the fridge up with allsorts and you have deli drawers to keep meat better, crisper bins for salads and veg and on the list goes. They do make a difference although I would agree that I am also unconvinced by the water thing.
Anyway, it’s not as if you could call the freezer small! 😆
And, further, people pay damn good money to get the things fixed so my call is, buy more of them ’cause they get repaired and not tossed at the first sign of trouble.

Ah I see Ken a vodka and coke slush puppy eh 😆
TBH I’m a whisky and water (from the tap) man myself, so no need for crushed ice.
I also see where you are coming from with repair rather than chuck point. The Maytag is a decent bit of kit, however the cheap far east copies leave alot to be desired IMHO.
I find it hilarious when you go to a small kitchen and there is this monster F/F taking up all the room, just so they can have cold water or crushed ice 😆

Err, it gets cold here. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. 😆
I can tell you it works well with rum, Jack Daniels and assorted other libations as many a visitor will testify after their recovery is complete. 😉
I do like a wee dram of malt, but that tends to be an expensive pastime as I don’t drink the cheap muck we sell to the tourists. But raw over crushed ice it is, shall we say, pleasant as the ice melts and cools it.
Not that I sample too much you understand. 😉
Yep, the repair bit is the part that I’m interested in and, when it comes to changing a compressor out of warranty these are the only machines we’ve done one on in several years, simply as it’s worth doing it. So I ain’t complaining about the trend.
Korean and other pretenders, I’d agree and have said so once or twice as they are just that, cheap copies so far as I’ve seen. I don’t like the EU made BSH or Whirlpool ones either, just seem cheap and nasty IMO.
What’s funnier though is working out how they get some of the things in the small kitchens in the first place!
