Just to say that this site, although great, would be even better if users could submit pictures. I’ve got a nice Tumble-Dryer horror pic which I think would go nicely in the “When things go wrong” gallery.
Trouble is, when I try to submit a picture, it comes up saying something like ” there is no directory available to which you can upload pictures” (or something similar)
It must be possible to rectify this. Obviously I could email the pictures but it is usual to submit them directly into the board.
If a moderator could look into it, I’m sure that the board would benefit from such submissions.

This is a subject that has come up a few times now and there’s some news on it too, but not good.
I had the Coppermine (Photo Gallery) set so it was only me that could upload for security reasons, i.e. I didn’t want some muppet trying to hack it. All worked well for a while…
Then the other day Trevor discovered a potentially HUGE security flaw in the module and it has had to be disabled for the moment until it’s patched, if/when one becomes available. It was a very severe risk to the site and indeed the server that it sits on.
See, this is the stuff you don’t see in the background. 😉
That’s where we’re currently at with it.

Okay, due to the usual heroic efforts of Trevor we now have a secure Gallery on the site and I have altered the permissions to allow you to upload to that gallery washdoctor. I think you may need to download the Java plug-in for it, but you need only do that once.
Just follow the instructions on screen, any problems give me a shout.
If anyone else wants to upload pictures I need to set the permissions to do so for each user so just let me know if you want to upload something and I’ll set it up. Also if anyone has any ideas for things in the gallery, simply let me know or post the idea for opinion.

Good news and looks neat too, but can’t it be renamed “Photo Gallery” in the Navigation Bar as we no longer see a ‘Random Gallery’ any more?

No, that’s because there’s no block written to do that for the gallery and yes, it can be renamed if required.

I still haven’t figured a Java Plug-in to download pictures but her’s another for the record/photo gallery if you like??
Perhaps to be entitled “Knife-edge Heating?” 😆
