❓ why is it that some of these oven elements don’t last very long

Hi
Ive found that a lot of the clamps that are on them are crimped too tight which then does not allow the element to expand and contract full but restricts the movement.. Yes they look all nice and neat but hot metal has to be given enough room to move. I have removed several of the clamps that have been too tight and have pressed into the outer sheaf.

its a neff/bosch. door hinges on these are like soft cheese if anyone puts the slightest extra weight when open. the gap formed then doesnt allow the oven to heat properly and overworks the element.
then theres the oven cleaners using their spray cleaner…
then theres price vs quality. even decent element mfctrs are getting poorer quality, and the cheap cheap is hit and miss… and tying in with that is bryans overclamped brackets 🙂

i find that elements are generally o.k. wether pattern or genuine. however there is one exception and that is the bosch/neff ones. and especially the “horse shoe” bosch.
i give a 12 months warranty and bosch/neff are the only ones that i have doubt as to if they’ll last it out.September 9, 2011 at 7:45 am #358586Martin

last year i done one where the customer supplied there own.
basally I was calculating the job in her kitchen and instantly she came up with a price she had on esapares on-line in front of me.
as you can imagine she had blown my quote out of the roof.
so i agreed to supply Labour only. six months later it had gone again .
i thought thanks, its not my responsibly you supplied the part
espares did supply another free and i had double labour 🙂 .September 9, 2011 at 8:45 am #358588electrofix

had more problems with the neff horse shoe element than any other. used ELE2052 but these used you blow bottom right hand corner seemed to me they had bent elements too close.
Then tried ele2052ego only to watch it go bang while i was watching it
So its Gen from now onDave

I’ve had little success with genuine or pattern half moon (a.k.a. horseshoe) Neff/Bosch elements. Both of which are rated 1700 watts at 240volts, both look identical in every way and both fail short term equally in my experience. So much so that I stick to fitting the non-gen Qualtex ones. In the past I have fitted the ELE2052 and recently have tried the ELE2052EGO version. The latter so far, touch wood, has been OK with no recalls. But I won’t hold out any greater hope nevertheless.
In the light of constant oven element failure statistics I have amended the parts fitted guarantee I give. Before I always gave a 12 month warranty but now only stress a guarantee period of just 90 days on ALL elements and lamp bulbs.
When you closely observe the uneven hotspots of fan oven elements and especially the half moon variety (pattern of gen) as they run up to temperature, it’s easy to figure at some point soon it’s gonna blow in that area. 90 days is a long enough period for any manufacturing defects to manifest themselves. So my customers are happy with that reassurance overall. If they ain’t they can go some place else and get it sorted. 👿

i have had loads of bosch ele2052 qualtex element blowing within 3 months of fitting, they always blow in the same place near to fixing bracket, also had other bosch/neff ele2042 and ele2044 not last long

“” always blowing next to the clamp fixing””
As I have said the clamps are fitted to tight. I have first hand experience and have watched the elements been made to which is why when I bulk order mine direct I request NO fixing points fitted but supplied separately.out of over 3000 elements I have only had less than 100 failures in 5 years.

to be fair to connect, i can count on one hand how many recalls we get for their 2300w bosch ring element, and we tend to do 2-3 a week… been using egoqtx ones too as theyre only few quid more, £70 for gen bosch is excessive when they dont seem to last much longer (on the whole) compared to connect patterns

Nearly all the failures I’ve seen…..and remembering 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} are gen BSH elements……have occurred on the bottom right corner .
Personally , I think its just a poor design….and so obviously do BSH as the new style double undercounter ovens have changed to a smaller ‘circular’ element .October 27, 2011 at 10:42 pm #358595walnut

Waisted 2 1/2 hrs today on these crap horse shoe elements.
I have fitted 2 EGO versions only to see a firework display as soon as I pick up my toolbox.
3 elements to fix one cooker and you can be sure the customer will be on the phone before the 6 months guarantee is up.
The frustrating part is that I know exactly why they are blowing, too many Watts per inch.
