ParticipantVery strange, but when washing clothes (kids’ school polo shirts are specifically a problem…. but also other things) any marks don’t seem to wash clean. Is it something to do with the washing tablets I’m using? I have tended to use non-bio as I have kids who seem to have been allergic to bio stuff before. Would this matter?
I have had a Hotpoint Ultima WT960 for the past 2-3 years which I have been happy with as it takes a large load.
Also I have a matching Ultima condensor tumble dryer which developed a fault a while back (I think some sort of error code came up). Worthwhile getting it repaired or will I have to trash it?
Any thoughts appreciated. 😕

Hi,
What machine, what program, what detergent? 😉
Non-bio is a sham, the UK is the only country in the world that it is sold in so, unless we have different skin exclusive to us that rest of humanity don’t share, we’re the odd one’s out. Basically, bio detergents causing any sort of skin issue is a myth other than, IIRC, the one in about 10 million people that have a reaction to any detergent.
You will need to tell the guys what the error code is so they can advise.

Oh – I guess I’m a sucker for marketing then! I didn’t realise you couldn’t get non-bio anywhere else! So I don’t suppose it matters whether I were to use cheap or expensive powder, tablets, liquid or whatever?
OK, I’ll have to plug in the faulty Hotpoint Ultima tumble dryer tomorrow and get the info, then I’ll come back here.
Thanks!

Ah, so would you mind telling me what products I should use? I would really like to use the right product to do the job properly once and for all!

If only it were that simple.
Here’s a starting point though that should give you a good idea of what you perhaps should be doing.
Essentially, you need two detergents, not one and then know how to use them correctly. That way you’ll get the best results.

Hello again
Thank you very much – I’ve read through the info you have pointed me to. Excellent advice and I will be going to get my powder tomorrow! Hopefully I will see a huge difference! I will also in future try to remember to run a maintenance wash every month too.

Hmm, I’ll have to tell my son’s doctor and Consultant dermatologist about that – both recommended non-bio degergents to help with his extremely common skin condition – eczema.

I have eczema and dermatitis, both are irritated by bio and non bio detergents if not rinsed out properly! :rolls:
They must be a scam because they contain near enough the same ingredients bar the enzymes. Any detergent even Ecover etc. will irritate me! 😳
Luckily I have a very old washer that uses loads of water-about 100 litres per load, so it rinses perfectly.
All the best

They would have – the enzymes are the ‘bio’ bit if I understand correctly.
Knowing how my son suffers, I fully sympathise with you.
We too have an elderly, water supping, machine that I intend to keep alive as long as I can.

I have used the modern washers and their rinsing is usless, too little water, you cannot even see it and alot of machines only do two rinses? My Bosch about 15 years old does four with water one third up the door for each. 😀
I really feel it for your son, I know just what he goes through. I too was recommended to use non-bio and am still allergic to it. So I use biological Ariel, very good at removing emollients and skin creams. As I am allergic to the lot I might as well use the best cleaning powder.

I have always used non-bio, but will take a look at other products now. My partner is a golfer and always comes back with grass marks on the bottom of his trousers, I think he wears them too long and stands on the backs of them. However, thats not really for this forum!
Thanks for advice on soap!
