    Hi,

Our WIDXL146 Indesit threw a wobbly at the weekend. After stopping halfway through a wash and popping the RCD in the utility room where it’s housed, it would then not properly start and, after a bit, would flash F01. I checked filters and tray and discovered that the tray was overflowing because our housemate had put powder in the conditioner slot.

After turning it off and on at the mains, the lights would function normally for a program, but the furthest we were getting along was perhaps a little squirt of water for half a second, then nothing for a while until the F01 would flash again and it would make an odd noise.

On inspection of the board we found a blown triac component (a very small ampage one), which we’ve ordered and can get replaced. However, I read that this could also happen through a dodgy motor.

There were a few splash marks on the plastic case around the control board, which makes us think that water caused the short and the corresponding RCD failure on the room circuit as this didn’t happen again in further testing.

However, does anybody know if replacing the triac with a new one is likely to solve this fault, or should we test the motor as well? If so, how do I do this?

    Many thanks in advance.

Check the Triac number, usually (Z0607 MA) available on ebay or direct from us.

This should sort the problem providing the water has not hit the board and fried the Chips / SMDs

Thanks, George – we found the triac number last night and ordered one from somewhere – I think it might have been allsorts! (Most of the shops were selling them in large batches, but we only need a single one.)

Given that the fault reporting and program lights / door shut etc was working, I’m hoping that the rest of the board chips are alright. Certainly there’s no visible damage to them.

I understand from our electronics guy who found the triac problem, that they act as switches within the circuit. Does it sound likely that a drip of water would cause the triac to blow, the RCD to trip in the room, and the subsequent inability of the washer to start its programs properly (if an important switch isn’t working).

    Many, many thanks.

Yes, if a drip of water caused a short between the neutral and earth or the live and earth, or even live to neutral in the right place. I have also seen these triacs pop purely out of degradance. Have your electroics guy check for dampness at the boards power input plug.

Much appreciated, George. Will let you know how it goes on the forum. Cheers.
